League of Legends World Championship boasts $2m prize pool

The upcoming League of Legends World Championship event will carry a $2m prize pool, developer Riot Games has revealed.

GameSpot reports this year’s eventkicks off in October. Half of that figure will go to the winning team, with second place taking $250k.

Third and fourth place teams will earn $150k each, while the remaining top eight will receive $75k each.

The LoL World Championship in past years had boasted eSports records for prize pool totals, but that was prior to Valve’s Dota 2 world championship event The International bringing in $10m earlier this year.
