Nation's industry recovering, claims Kojima Production's Jordan Amaro

Metal Gear Solid V designer defends Japanese dev sector

The designer of Metal Gear Solid V has moved to defend the output of the Japanese development community, insisting that the games industry in the country is returning to strength.

Speaking to Gamespot, Jordan Amaro refuted Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune’s recent claims to the same website that the Japanese games industry is continue to loose it’s grip as a leading power in games making.

"It’s not gotten worse," asserted Amaro. "That kind of comment used to be relevant a couple of years ago but many companies are recovering, and have made tough strategic decisions that will pay off soon."

Certainly, those kind of comments have been made before, and by Inafune, who has not shied away from criticising the state of games development in Japan. In 2009 he claimed games making in Japan was "finished".

"I can assure you that everyone here is aware of how painful the current gen has been to Japan, but I see the Renaissance around the corner," Amaro added.

Inafune has himself met with much success recently, funding his own Mega Man-inspired title Mighty No. 9 on Kickstarter, which at the time of writing had raised $1.6 million, with 26 days of the campaign to go. Inafune was looking to secure $900,000.
