Microsoft acquires Xbone.com domain

The URL Xbone.com is now the property of Microsoft.

Fusible reports that the Xbox One platform holder recently acquired the domain. ‘Xbone’ has amongst some circles become the go-to nickname for Microsoft’s upcoming machine.

The news comes after Microsoft’s community man Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hyrb recently admitted on NeoGaf that he’s not a fan of the nickname.

I don’t like it,” he admitted when asked how he felt about the term. It disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself.”

It’s unlikely that Microsoft has a commercial plan for the URL, however, and likely acquired the URL purely to protect its own IP against the dangers of parody.
