Microsoft developing its own smartphone report

Microsoft may be developing its own smartphone model free from its current partnerships with cellular providers.

Wall Street Journal sources claiming to be Microsoft parts suppliers state that the firm is working with Chinese and Korean component manufacturers to finalize the new hardware’s design.

The sources add that Microsoft is strongly considering a 5-inch screen — larger than current smartphone leaders iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy SIII. That said, the report states the company isn’t sure if the product will ever go into mass production.

Microsoft currently produces its smartphones in partnership with Nokia and HTC.
