Microsoft ships 3.9m Xbox Ones

Microsoft has reported revenue of $24.52bn for the quarter ending on December 31st, 2013 – a 14 per cent increase in net sales fueled by what the firm described as a great” holiday period.

Xbox hardware sold 7.4m consoles during the quarter. Xbox One’s output in terms of units shipped to retail for the quarter totaled 3.9m units, while Xbox 360 sold 3.5m.

Sales for the firm’s Devices and Consumer segment, which include the Xbox property, were up 13 per cent to $11.91bn.

Our Commercial segment continues to outpace the overall market, and our Devices and Consumer segment had a great holiday quarter,” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said.

The investments we are making in devices and services that deliver high-value experiences to our customers, and the work we are doing with our partners, are driving strong results and positioning us well for long-term growth.”

We delivered record revenue as demand for our business offerings remains high and we made strong progress in our Devices and Consumer segment,” company CFO Amy Hood added.

These results reflect our focus on execution, cost discipline, and long-term shareholder value as we continue to drive the strategic transformation of the company.”

Microsoft’s overall net income for the quarter hit $6.56bn, a 3 per cent increase from 2012’s holiday quarter.
