Microsoft sues Datel over 360 pads

Microsoft is suing accessories specialist Datel over patent infringement surrounding its third-party Xbox 360 controllers.

The platform holder claims technology used in Datel’s TurboFire and WildFire joypads infringe several US patents granted to Microsoft over the past three years. Microsoft has filed the complaint in both the US and the UK, according to the Seattle Post.

Microsoft spokesperson Kevin Kutz said in a statement: We have filed a complaint against Datel, alleging that its products violate our design registrations for Xbox controllers.

We have a robust licensing program that ensures high standards and contributes to a great experience for the Xbox gamer community. We have a responsibility to protect that program and the companies that are part of it, as well as our intellectual property.”

The lawsuit follows Datel’s complaint against Microsoft back in November last year. The peripherals firm filed an antitrust lawsuit, claiming an Xbox Live update that prevented the use of third-party memory cards was designed to force Datel’s Max Memory cards out of the market.
