Melbourne-based developer focusing on ‘small, beautiful games’

Monument Valley lead designer forms new studio Mountains

Ken Wong has founded a new studio Mountains, and is working on a new premium mobile game.

Wong is best known as lead designer on Monument Valley, the acclaim puzzle title from UK developer Ustwo Games, as well as his work with American McGee.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Mountains operates out of The Arcade co-working space that already hosts more than 30 games firms, including Crossy Road dev Hipster Whale.

Wong’s teammates are producer Kamina Vincent from Tin Man Games and programmer Sam Crisp. The three-person team positions itself as a “craft games studio” and aims to make “small, beautiful games”, according to the team’s announcement.

Their first title will debut in 2017.

"I’m excited to be drawing from all my experiences across different roles in order to build a more creative and healthier type of games company," said Wong. "We’re starting by putting people first. Great work will follow from that.”
