Namco Bandai posts YEN 2.8bn loss

Namco Bandai has released its financial results for the quarter ending June 30th, showing a loss in operating income of approximately YEN 2.8bn.

The company posted a profit of YEN 1.5bn for the same quarter last year, highlighting the significance of this year’s drop.

Namco’s net sales also fell by 15 per cent to YEN 75.7bn yen, compared to YEN 90bn last year. Gross profits also fell from YEN 31bn to YEN 25bn.

Net sales for the firm’s games division fell by more than 25 per cent year-on-year, from YEN 28b to YEN 20bn. The division also posted a loss of YEN 4bn, compared to YEN 40m in the same period last year.

The publisher’s biggest selling game was Afro Samurai on Xbox 360 and PS3, shifting 420,000 units. The game nearly double that of the second best-selling game We Ski & Snowboard, which sold 270,000 units.

Interestingly, Europe was the second strongest region for the company with an operating income of YEN 547m, placing it behind Asia with an operating income of YEN 562m.
