Publisher also plans to open a new office in Singapore in June

Namco Bandai to open Vancouver studio

Japanese developer and publisher Namco Bandai is to open new studios in Vancouver and Singapore this June.

The new Canada office will develop online social games, and both studios will use a combined workforce of local hires and staff from Namco Bandai’s Japan offices.

The company said it chose the location for its Canadian office based on the strong local and government support.

The Vancouver studio will be located within the offices of the Centre for Digital Media.

"The Centre for Digital Media, a collaboration of UBC, SFU, Emily Carr and BCIT, is thrilled to have Namco Bandai moving into our facility," said Centre director Richard Smith.

"The connections with our students – and project and educational opportunities that we are exploring – are already paying off. As with the other digital media companies here, Namco Bandai is a great addition to the mix of researchers, studios and industry practitioners at the CDM. We look forward to working with them as we build the digital media industry here in B.C."
