Epic's vice president discusses the UE3 features revealed at GDC 09

Newest Unreal Engine 3 features profiled

In our most recent tech feature, Epic Vice President Mark Rein has detailed all the features of the Unreal Engine 3 revealed at the recent Game Developers Conference 2009.

Rein discusses several features, including the new global illumination solver Unreal Lightmass, and the asset management solution Unreal Content Browser, which improves the way users can view objects and packages. Other highlighted features include the new Unreal Master Control Program, which offers a service-orientated architecture designed to provide a highly scalable set of services focused on online gameplay.

As well as discussing Epic Games China’s Atlas Technology Development Suite, Rein also uses the development of Acony Games’ Parabellum as a case study to explain the benefits of utilising Unreal Engine 3 for free-to-play gaming.
