No DRM in The Witcher 3: CD Projekt RED

DRM is one of mostly hotly debated topics in our industry today, but CD Projekt RED is sticking to its guns and maintaining its anti-DRM stance.

The Polish developer has announced that, like its predecessors, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also be DRM-free.

We are trying to get rid of DRM. If someone wants to pirate a game, eventually he will,” gameplay designer Maciej Szczesnik conceded in an interview with Kotaku, with managing director Adam Badowski adding, You can’t do anything about it. We want to give the best user experience possible.”

Badowski also said that removing DRM in their other games even made a positive impression on pirates. When we removed DRM, people on those torrents were actually asking people not to download our game, because we [weren’t using DRM],” he said.

The open-world RPG is headed to PC and next-gen consoles in 2014.
