Nordic Games announces open-world RPG ELEX

Gothic and Risen developer Piranha Bytes is working on a new open-world RPG for next-gen consoles and PC.

Nordic Games will serve as the publisher on this ‘collaborative project’, which has a release date of late 2016 or early 2017.

The blurb says the game is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi fantasy with a large, seamless world populated by mutated creatures and ‘deep moral choices’.

To say we are excited to see this new project unfold in the hands of Piranha Bytes is an understatement,” Nordic’s business and product development director Reinhard Pollice said. ELEX is going to be edgy, dark, uncompromising, complex, and we love it already. We will be premiering a vertical slice build at Gamescom 2015, more info will be released in due time.”

Piranha Bytes director Bjrn Pankratz added: Apart from being enthusiastic about the cooperation with Nordic Games, it is great to know, that we will have ample creative freedom with ELEX, which is a very important factor for us. We can’t wait to show you a completely new game experience with a fresh setting, new assets and plenty of possibilities."

The developer said goodbye to the Gothic series when it fell out with its former partner JoWood – a company that Nordic acquired in 2011.
