PDP Kinect mount boasts ‘privacy cover’ feature

A third party wall mount for Xbox One Kinect includes a ‘privacy cover’ which obscures the peripheral’s RGB and IR cameras.

As spotted by Polygon, PDP’s accessory features a sliding cover that can be positioned in front of the Kinect’s lenses thereby stopping the camera potentially watching the events taking place in the living room. It’s available on Amazon in the US for $19.99.

Microsoft has repeatedly assured users that Kinect, which is always on by default, will not snoop on users and that the information it gathers will not be fed to third parties.

Indeed, the camera can be turned off and following the post-E3 reaction to Xbox One Microsoft now allows the console to function even if Kinect is not plugged in.
