Rampage film adaptation hires writer

New Line Cinema appears quite serious about bringing an adaptation of 80’s arcade smash ‘em up Rampage to the big screen.

The studio has hired writer Ryan Engle to pen the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. John Rickard had already been picked up to produce the King Kong style flick.

New Line announced back in November that it was had secured the rights to the adaptation, with the studio ‘hoping to make an Independence Day-style picture on a smart budget.’

For those unaware, the game revolves around three mutated humans who are transformed into giant creatures that take on the military while climbing up buildings, eating unsuspecting civilians, and pretty much obliterating whatever (or whoever) is in their path.
