Developer Demiurge says it is 'business as usual' for the studio despite the cancellation

Sega cans Aliens: Colonial Marines for Wii U

Sega has cancelled the Wii U port of Aliens: Colonial Marines.

The Wii U port, often tipped by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford as the best version of the title, had been expected to launch in March, but Sega has now confirmed the game has been cancelled, although it has not given a reason for doing so.

"Sega can confirm that the Wii U sku of Aliens: Colonial Marines is no longer in development," read a statement from Sega.

Albert Reed, CEO for independent US studio Demiurge, which was developing the Wii U port, has told Develop that while the company is sorry to hear of the game’s cancellation, it is "business as usual" for the firm.

"We were very sorry to hear about the cancellation of Aliens for Wii U," said Reed.

"It’s business-as-usual here at Demiurge Studios. We are focused on making Shoot Many Robots for mobile kick ass and we’ve got another unannounced game in the works that we can’t wait to unveil!"

Co-developed by Gearbox and TimeGate, Colonial Marines received a poor critical reception from the press, garnering an average rating of between 42 and 48 across all platforms.

Sega was also recently forced by the Advertising Standards Agency to post disclaimers alongside its trailers for the title, after it admitted the videos "did not accurately reflect the content of the game".

The publisher has now listed on all relevent YouTube videos and its website that "the trailer footage shown uses the in-game engine, and represents a work in progress".
