Sledgehammer’s COD spin-off on hold

Activision has said that the mysterious "action-adventure" instalment to the Call of Duty franchise is on hold.

The game was first cryptically mentioned in the wake of the Infinity Ward saga of early 2010. However, with Sledgehammer named as one of the four studios working on Modern Warfare 3 the fate of the project remained unclear until now.

"Right now Sledgehammer’s 100 per cent focused on Modern Warfare 3," Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg told IndustryGamers.

"We haven’t announced the future slate or future plans for the studio. They were originally working on an extension of the Call of Duty franchise into an action/adventure genre and that’s a game I still want to play. That’s a supreme, incredible group doing that.

"All I can say is right now they’re 100 per cent focused on Modern Warfare 3."
