Sonic Mania release date confirmed for August, plus special Switch collector’s edition

Sonic Mania finally has a release date, and it’s getting a special collector’s edition for the Nintendo Switch to boot, Sega has confirmed.

Launching on August 15th 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch, Sonic Mania celebrates the best of classic Sonic with all the benefits of modern day tech, including 60fps gameplay and pixel-perfect graphics.

The Switch version of the game will also be getting a special collector’s edition that will be exclusive to Amazon. This includes a deluxe Sega Mega Drive-style collector’s box, a 12in Sonic statue featuring a Sega Mega Drive base that plays the iconic Sega startup audio (yes, really), as well as a Sega cartridge cast with a golden ring.

Despite being a few months away yet, pre-orders for Sonic Mania are now open for the digital version of the game, and the Switch collector’s edition can be pre-ordered from Amazon as well. Only PC buyers will be able to get a 10 per cent discount, however.
