Square Enix closes down its Core Online streaming service

Core Online, the HD streaming games service from Square Enix, has been shut down.

Visitors to the site are currently greeted with a simple holding image saying Core Online is discontinued”.

A statement on the publisher’s support pages adds that: Core Online was released as an experiment to see what demand there would be for HD games played via the browser.

However, due to limited commercial take-up of this initiative, Core Online closed on Friday 29th November 2013.”

Core Online users were able to pay $2.99 per month for unlimited access to a handful of titles such as Hitman: Blood Money and Tomb Raider: Underworld. Alternatively titles were available on an individual basis.
