Square Enix reports strong Q2

Japanese publisher and developer Square Enix has reported an impressive 814 per cent year-on-year increase in operating profit to YEN 5,434m for the quarter ending June 30th 2010.

Recurring income was up 124 per cent at YEN 3,426m while net sales grew by 11 per cent to YEN 32,540m. Net income was YEN 1,812m compared to a YEN 1,672m loss in the same period one year ago.

The Digital Entertainment division saw net sales of YEN 16,626m and operating income of YEN 5,891m.

During the quarter Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 was released in April and sold 1.25m units,” president Yoichi Wada stated. This success, combined with the continued strength of big titles including Final Fantasy XIII and the launch of Just Cause 2 in the US and Europe in March contributed to favourable earnings in the quarter.

As we continue to strengthen our existing businesses in the second quarter and beyond, we are also vigorously pushing forward our mid- and long-term growth strategies of globalisation, becoming network centric and strengthening our own-IPs.”
