Steam hits 30m users

Valve’s digital games retail network Steam now has over 30m active accounts, the company has announced.

During the last 12 months it has seen user growth of 178 per cent and sales growth in excess of 200 per cent. Over 1,200 games are now available to buy over the network, with the number of simultaneous players reaching over three million at its peak.

Six million users are currently accessing Steam every day. The service is on track for its sixth straight year of 100 per cent plus unit sale growth.

Steam is on track to record the biggest year in its six year history,” Valve president Gabe Newell stated.

The year has marked major development advances to the platform with the introduction of support for Mac titles, the Steam Wallet and in-game item buying support, and more.

"We believe the growth in accounts, sales, and player numbers is completely tied to this work and we plan to continue to develop the platform to offer more marketing, sales, and design tools for developers and publishers of games and digital entertainment.”
