THQ founder passes away

Jack Friedman, the founder of THQ, passed away yesterday at the age of 70.

Friedman was chairman and CEO of toy firm Jakks Pacific until he retired a month ago. Shortly after, he had been hospitalized for several weeks.

He founded THQ back in 1989, where he served as chief executive and president until he left to found Jakks in 1995. Overall he worked in the toys and video games industries for more than 50 years.

Jack was a legendary toymaker and a real titan in our industry,” said Jakks’ CEO Stephen Berman. He will be sorely missed. On behalf of all Jakks employees, we send our sincere condolences to his wife Karen and his children for their loss.”

In a statement, the Jakks’ board of directors added: We are greatly saddened by the passing of Jack Friedman. He was a visionary leader who guided the company with wisdom and keen judgment.”
