Trion Worlds closing European office

Ambitious MMO publisher Trion Worlds will close its European office in Guildford, UK.

The HQ is expected to close this week, which will result in more than 10 redundancies, MCV understands.

Staff affected includes Trion Europe boss John Burns, communications boss Jon Goddard commercial director Jeff Pabst, senior brand manager Dominic Wai and PR manager Gary Burns.

The company behind Rift and Defiance has already made a series of redundancies in May to its North American team.

"As part of its recent company realignment, Trion’s European publishing office based in Guildford, UK, will be closing down," the company said in a statement.

"European localized versions of Trion’s live and upcoming games will not be affected as all regional game development and support continues from Redwood City, CA."

The firm has had some success with its online games Rift and Defiance. The latter game was backed by a marketing push and managed to secure 1m registered users. However, it has suffered due to a number of bugs in the game, and concurrent users have fallen.
