True Riddick sequel in the works

Tigon Studios, the firm producing the upcoming Chronicles Of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena, has revealed a true sequel to the original Xbox title is in the pipeline but won’t arrive for at least two years.

Speaking to Eurogamer, the studio’s head of production Ian Stevens said: We’ve really tried to maintain that core experience of the original and embellish it for Assault On Dark Athena, which we see very much as an episodic expansion of Escape From Butcher Bay.

We’re not calling it a sequel; we’ve got a sequel in mind that’s a couple of years out if you guys want it, and you like this and you tell us you want more.”

The Chronicles Of Riddick games are based on the movies of the same name, starring Tigon’s founder Vin Diesel. The original, Escape From Butcher Bay, was released to critical acclaim, with the next instalment Assault On Dark Athena due to launch on PS3 and Xbox 360 in Spring 2009.

While Dark Athena has been met with positive press so far, Stevens insists the third game will be even better.

He said: The full sequel is ambitious and that is definitely going to follow the precedent that we set with the first. But for now we’ve got a new story that we want to tell and a little bit of single-player expansion on that original game.”
