Unbundled Kinect launching this October

A standalone offering of Xbox One’s camera peripheral Kinect will arrive in October, Microsoft has announced.

The firm states Xbox One’s camera sensor will launch independent of the hardware on October 7th for $150. A digital copy of Harmonix’s Dance Central Spotlight is also included with purchase.

Kinect was included as part of Xbox One’s $500 debut hardware package, before Microsoft began offering Xbox One hardware on its own for $400 this past June – a move that caused Xbox One sales to double month-to-month.

Still, the company explained in today’s announcement that it has seen an increased demand for the Xbox One Kinect bundle. That statement echoes Phil Spencer’s message during the standalone Xbox One hardware release, when the Xbox head argued that the separation from the hardware will actually improve Kinect’s market saturation in the long-term.
