Studio continues to back new IP with Project MyWorld

VIDEO: Realtime Worldsâ?? bold new project

Just a matter of weeks since Realtime Worlds released its studio-defining title All Points Bulletin, the Dundee outfit has revealed to the world its new daring project.

And with Realtime Worlds beholden to the commercial success of APB – not a certainty in light of disappointing reviews, an unspectacular retail performance, and staff restructures – some expected the studio’s next title to be more of a safety shot.

Yet in a demonstration of the Scottish studio’s nerve, Realtime Worlds has revealed its next project is a high-concept Sim-City-esque affair.

Project MyWorld is described as “a unique idea crossing social media, social gaming and traditional gaming”.

In the spirit of Media Molecule’s ‘play – create – share’ ethos, the game asks players to construct and edit famous cities, as well as play various games (such as kart and plane races) within them.

What may be most interesting for publishers, however, is how the game is keen to integrate numerous social networking portals. Users can tweet messages from within their cities, they can post announcements to Facebook, and they can take photos and upload them to Flickr.

The game appears to be without a publishing deal for now, though Realtime World’s full-scale assault on social networks could be a pivotal move – with industry execs desperate to use such channels in a meaningful manner.

In an announcement on the group’s website, Realtime Worlds said it “plans to let everyone explore Project MyWorld early next year”.
