Windows 8 sells 40m licenses in first month

Microsoft’s latest operating system Windows 8 has sold 40m licenses during its first month.

The official Windows blog reports the firm’s CFO Tami Reller revealed the figure earlier today at the Credit Suisse 2012 Annual Technology Conference.

The journey is just beginning, but I am pleased to announce today that we have sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses so far,” said Reller.

No specifics were mentioned on how new purchases, upgrades, and licenses sold onboard new computers and tablets each factored into the figure.

Microsoft also announced that the number of apps in the Windows Store has doubled since launch, standing at over 21,000 as of November 26th.
