E3 2011: Previously announced EVE-tied massively online shooter Dust 514 locked in for PS3

World-first: CCP reveals MMO-linked console FPS

CCP has announced that its new massively online shooter project Dust 514 will be a PS3 exclusive.

The new game, which will be linked in real-time to CCP’s PC MMO Eve Online, will share a shard-based server with that title. A closed beta displaying how this shared universe will work in practice is to go live before the end of the year, with a full PSN release of Spring/Summer 2012 given.

CCP has also assured full Move support for Dust 514, and hinted at furthering the project some way into PlayStation Home and the PlayStation Vita over time.

“The ability for Sony Computer Entertainment to partner with a developer like CCP, known for pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation in the MMO genre, holds tremendous potential for the PlayStation 3 community,” said SCEA SVP Rob Dyer.

“We anticipate that Dust 514 will transform the landscape across PlayStation 3 and the PC, ushering in a new era of shared cross platform gaming.”

CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson added: “When we set out to build a true persistent shooter for consoles, it was evident that Sony’s dedication to providing a flexible and MMO-friendly platform -alongside a robust virtual goods business model- made the PlayStation 3 the natural home for Dust 514.”

“CCP’s ambition is to bring a level of truly meaningful, persistent gameplay to the PlayStation 3 never before seen.”
