XBLA’s first free-to-play game is Happy Wars

XBLA will be taking the full leap into free-to-play with Toylogic’s multiplayer action title Happy Wars.

PlayXBLA reveals the game will launch this fall and will be available as a free download for Xbox Live Gold accounts. ‘Lavishly rendered’ character customization items will be offered for purchase.

Rumours that the firm was adjusting its infrastructure to support F2P have been swirling around since last year, though the title marks the first time Microsoft has actually brought an F2P game to 360’s downloadable service.

Dungeon Fighter Live, XBLA’s take on F2P PC title Dungeon Fighter Online, for instance runs $10; and Crimson Alliance, a co-op action RPG, was stated to be F2P but held back those who wouldn’t buy into the game’s ‘flexible’ pricing from a lot of the content.
