Xbox One abandons DVR plans

TV digital video recording is no longer coming to Xbox One.

The Verge reports that Microsoft has scrapped its DVR plans, which were first announced back in May 2015, at which point it was due to roll out before the end of the year.

"After careful consideration, we’ve decided to put development of DVR for Over-the-Air TV on hold to focus our attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming experiences across Xbox One and Windows 10," a Microsoft spokesperson said.

"We’re always listening to fan feedback and we look forward to bringing more requested experiences on Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live this year."

In August it was said that users would need an external HDD to make use of the feature, and that it would be limited to over-the-air broadcasts, despite Xbox One’s cable and satellite compatibility. It was also due to allow for TV streaming to Windows devices.
