Zelda: Breath of the Wild to receive £17.99 DLC Expansion Pass

Nintendo has announced it will be releasing a season pass for Switch launch title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This is the first time DLC will be available for the main Legend of Zelda series, and it will be available for both the Switch and Wii U versions of the game when it launches on March 3rd.

Dubbed the ‘Expansion Pass’, the DLC pack will set players back 17.99, giving players access to two new sets of content when they become available later this year. Meanwhile on Day One, players will be able to track down three extra chests in the opening Great Plateau area. One contains a wearable shirt for Link that’s adorned with the Nintendo Switch logo, while the other two will contain "useful items."

The first content pack is scheduled to launch this summer and will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map. It’s expected that Breath of the Wild’s Cave of Trials will be very similar to the one featured in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, which was unlocked when players used the Wolf Link amiibo in-game.

The second content pack will launch over Christmas, and will add new challenges. This includes a new dungeon and a new original story.

The world of Hyrule, which we created for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is so large and vibrant that we wanted to offer more for players to experience within it,” said series producer Eiji Aonuma in a statement. With this new Expansion Pass, we hope that fans will play, explore and enjoy the game even more.”

Nintendo also released the following video explaining the Expansion Pass in more detail, which you can view below:
