Red Dead shines in Japan

It’s hard enough for a Western developed game to proper in the stereotypically xenophobic Japanese market – does that means it’s all the more special when a Western developed Western game proves a sales success?

IGN reports that the PS3 version of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption charted at No.4 in Japan this week, with the Xbox 360 SKU claiming No.7. Between them they sold a total of 96,272 copies, with 71k going to the Sony format.

There was also success for UK-developed F1 2010, which managed to finish in eighth spot.

Nintendo’s Pokemon Black & White remained at the top, with lifetime sales just shy of 4m units. The PSP was once again the best selling system of the week with sales of 33,683 units, The PS3 was the best selling home console with unit sales of 19,948.
