Remote Play demoed for PS Vita

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has demonstrated PlayStation Vita’s ability to play games streamed directly from a PS3.

The president of Sony Worldwide Studios was showing off PS Vita’s Remote Play technology at Tokyo Games Show, reports VG247.

He played Killzone 3 on the PS Vita which was streamed onto the handheld console from a PS3, with minor lag evident. This works by letting Vita users access PS3 games over a Wi-Fi or internet connection.

Yoshida also demonstrated how a PS Vita can be used in co-op play with a PS3. He flew an aeroplane in LittleBigPlanet 2 on Vita, while a colleague was playing as another character on PS3 in the same game. He then showed off Vita streaming film content from a PS3.

The technology is comparable to Nintendo’s upcoming home console Wii U, which allows players to control a game on its tablet controller as well as on TV.

Yoshida said the technology is still in development, but stressed the aim is for developers to access the tech in the near future.
