Report: Facebook to release smartphone by 2013

Facebook is making big strides towards creation of its own smartphone, if a report by The New York Times holds water.

According to the report, Facebook employees, engineers, and others familiar with the matter say that the company has made major additions to the group already working on ‘Buffy’ (the project’s codename).

Those sources also claim that the company has hired "more than half a dozen former Apple software and hardware engineers who worked on the iPhone, and one who worked on the iPad."

The plan is to have the device released by 2013.
