Reports point to forthcoming new Xbox One

Filings at the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) hint at the existence of a new kind of Xbox One.

As spotted by NeoGAF user ekim, Microsoft has filed two pieces of technology with the FCC – the US agency that regulates data transmissions tech.

There are now two new listings assigned to Microsoft – 1682 and 1683, which ekim believes are wireless adaptors for an Xbox One.

Of course, this could well not be the case. But under one of the listings – 1683 – there is reference to ‘Manual 1525′. It could well be a coincidence, but the wireless chip in the OG Xbox One was approved under model No.1525. The Manual referred to is the booklet that comes with the Xbox One, thus suggesting this ‘new’ Xbox One will ship with the same manual.

However, Manual 1525 is not referenced in the filing for the other filing, 1682. Speculation is suggesting that 1683 is a new kind of Xbox One (Slim?), while 1682 is something else entirely.

This information is currently embargoed – 1683’s NDA ends on June 25th, while 1682 exits its embargo on July 29th. NeoGAF users speculate that this hints at an E3 reveal.

Since the start of 2016, rumours have run wild about new and more powerful iterations of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In March, Phil Spencer hinted at console hardware upgrades for this gen of hardware. Since, he has distanced himself from his comments and event went as far to say as he was not a fan of the ‘Xbox 1.5′ idea, instead preferring a move forwards in ‘big numbers’, i.e. a new machine altogether.

That’s on top of the rumoured PlayStation 4.5/PS4K which Kotaku discovered at GDC 2016. That has since been independently confirmed by Eurogamer and the Wall Street Journal.
