Second delay for 3DS e-portal

Having already suffered one delay, Nintendo has confirmed another change of plans for its 3DS digital downloads portal.

Back in January the platform holder had indicated that the store would be ready to launch alongside the handheld in March. This was later changed, with a May arrival pencilled in, thanks to what the company called a "drastic redesign" of its ecommerce plans.

May is now off the cards, though the company has for the first time given a concrete date for the service’s launch – June 7th in Europe and Japan and June 6th in the US.

The facility will be delivered via a firmware update.

"By downloading the free update via a broadband internet connection, Nintendo 3DS users can enjoy a number of new features and enhancements including an internet browser and access to the Nintendo eShop, where users can browse and purchase downloadable content," a statement read.

In June of last year, Nintendo president Saturo Iwata talked up his big ambitions for the service.

What I can say is that if that type of digital distribution is not something that is very new and fresh compared to what we have done with Nintendo DSi, then I think we’re going to have a hard time reaching out beyond the audience that actively seeks out that type of digital content.”
