Sega reports significant dip in quarterly sales

Sega has reported negative financial results for its most recent quarter, though the firm’s games division had little to do with the poor performance.

Sega Sammy Holdings posted a $63.8m loss overall, down 41.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The company’s ‘pachislot and pachinko’ division – which manufactures gambling machines for the domestic Japanese market – saw the steepest decline in sales to the tune of a $54m loss.

However,Sega’s ‘entertainment contents’ sector (includes console, mobile and arcade games) actually narrowed its losses year-on-year. The three month period didn’t include any significant arcade or console releases, but did have strong launches for free-to-play mobile titles Hortensia Saga and Monster Gear.
