Skylanders revenue hits $1.5bn

A day after Disney hailed the success of Disney Infinity, rival Activision has emphasised the on going dominance of its own toy/games crossover brand.

The publisher has announced that the Skylanders IP has to date generated over $1.5bn in global revenue and has been the best selling console and handheld video game in Europe and the US so far in 2013.

Plus, Skylanders Giants sold over 500,000 Starter Packs and Portal Owner Packs worldwide in its first two weeks of release.

"Skylanders is the biggest video game including toys and accessories and the biggest action figure line in the industry in the US and Europe so far this year,” Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg stated.

Skylanders Giants also delivered the biggest kid’s video game launch of the last 12 months1. We’ve accomplished this unmatched level of success by consistently delivering magic to our passionate, young fans. And the best is yet to come. With next month’s release of Skylanders SWAP Force, we will take this category that we’ve pioneered to a new level of innovation and creativity."
