Skylanders toys surpass 20m units

Skylanders is Activision’s biggest ever ‘new IP’ and ‘potentially a $1bn franchise.’

The new kids property – which is technically part of the Spyro franchise, but we’ll gloss over that – was 2011’s No.1 kids property, according to the publisher.

It says that the toys alone has sold more than 20m units since it launched last year, with sell-outs reported across Europe and the US.

In North America and Europe, including accessory packs and figures, Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure was the No.8 best-selling game in value for Q4 2011.

Activision is now planning a new title in the series, Skylanders Giants.
