Splatterhouse rocks Metal Hammer awards

Metal fans and celebrities are championing Namco Bandai’s Splatterhouse after last month’s 2010 Kawasaki Hammer Golden Gods awards.

The game was a key sponsor at the event, which was held at London’s IndigO2 on June 14th. The resultant exposure to the game’s target demographic has led to a boost in interest for one of the publisher’s biggest games of the year.

Splatterhouse sponsored the ‘Metal As Fuck’ award and it was a brilliant night,” said Namco Bandai’s product manager Kate White.

We demoed the game on one of the boats down at The O2 and renamed the other boat HMS Splatter. We had gaming pods throughout The O2 so everyone could play, and we gave 500 attendees the iconic Splatterhouse Rick hockey masks.”

White claims the title was also well received by many celebrities in attendance, such as Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi and Sir Christopher Lee.

Other celebrity fans included the awards’ hosts Steel Panther and bands including Five Finger Death Punch, who appear on the game’s soundtrack.

Namco Bandai was able to drive interest among heavy metal fans and core gamers, and says it is now investing in similar opportunities to maintain this momentum.

The awards was the perfect target audience for Splatterhouse and provided a great opportunity for everyone to get fully immersed in the game and the gore,” said White. We’ll definitely look to do more event promotions like this in future.”
