Square Enix confirms extent of web hack

The personal details of around 1.8m North American and Japanese customers of Square Enix could have been compromised in a recent web hack, the publisher has admitted.

A server containing details of 1m Japanese members and 800k North American users of the Square Enix Members service was accessed in the incident.

The server containing details of 300k European customers was not breached.

Information contained on the affected systems included names, emails, telephone numbers and in some instances addresses. Credit card information was not accessed.

Square Enix adds that it does not yet know for sure whether any information was actually lost or stolen.
