Square extends Final Fantasy XIV free play time

Free access to Square Enix MMO Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been extended by a week.

FFXIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida confirmed the news after many gamers have been unable to login to the title following an extended period of server problems that have plagued the game since its recent re-launch.

The developers say they are constantly monitoring individual servers while placing and removing access restrictions as needed according to changing user numbers.

Maintenance will take place tomorrow (Wednesday Sep 3rd) that will take the game and all of its servers offline. This downtime will be used to redistribute loads across the entire server group – a move devs hope will alleviate login problems.

Concurrent user numbers are currently maxing out at around 230,000.

We thank our fans again for the overwhelming support you have shown us over the past week,” Yoshida wrote. The response to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has well exceeded our expectations, and unfortunately resulted in our inability to provide the service which we originally intended.

We humbly ask for your continued patience as we work to alleviate the issues as we truly appreciate all of our fans. We are very sorry for the frustration that has resulted from these problems.”
