Standalone DayZ sells 800,000 copies in 18 days

The phenomenal success of the standalone alpha release of DayZ is showing no sign of letting up.

Creator Dean Hall has revealed that the game was purchased over 800,000 between release and January 4th – that covers a period of just 18 days on the market.

We (Bohemia and I) had very ambitious plans for 2014 already,” he said on Reddit. However this amount of sales was completely unexpected.

Honestly, 250k within a quarter was what I would have considered a success. So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy. We’ll be finalising our roadmap in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that roadmap.”

The game was released on Steam on December 17th and a day later had already racked up 172,500 downloads. Sales in the first week hit 400,000.

All of which points total revenue to date of, at 15 a download, some 12m.
