Star Citizen crowdfunding campaign tops $17m

Chris Robert’s Start Citizen crowdfunding experiment has reached new heights, crossing the $17m mark in raised funding.

Incredibly, only $2.1m of that total was brought in by the project’s run on Kickstarter, meaning nearly $15m has been raised by other avenues such as direct PayPal donations.

The in-development space simulator is still running its campaign, with the next stretch goal set at the $19m mark.

If the milestone is reached, backers will be able to compete for control over space station, as well as other perks including a manual and monthly airings of the RSI Museum column – a portion of Roberts Space Industries Website containing articles about past projects of Chris Roberts and others working on the title.

Star Citizen is currently estimated to arrive in Q1 2015 for Windows PC.
