Star Citizen to enter Guinness Book of World Records

In-development space sim Star Citizen will enter the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest crowdfunded effort ever, lead developer Chris Roberts has announced.

Roberts stated in a new post on Roberts Space Industries that the title will go into the record books "not as the largest crowdfunded game of all time, but as the largest crowdfunded anything of all time."

Star Citizen recently topped $55m total across all of its crowdfunding campaigns and platforms. Remarkably, funding continues to pour in nearly two years after the game’s $6m Kickstarter campaign.

"Ship sales and new members of our community are the two main fund raising sources," Roberts explained.

The game has an estimated release window of 2015 on Windows PC and Linux.
