Starcraft II outshines predecessor

Activision Blizzard’s Starcraft II is celebrating a significant victory in the UK Charts this week – but that’s not the only achievement the game is enjoying this week.

GfK Chart-Track has confirmed that in just five days on the shelves Starcraft II has already sold more copies than the first game managed in its entire lifetime in the UK.

The first Starcraft was released in 1998 and not only failed to top the Top 40, but also failed to topple Luacarts’ Star Wars Supremacy from the top of the PC charts. In global terms, though, the game has gone on to become one of the best selling and most highly regarded PC titles ever to be released.

Starcraft II is the first PC-only title to top the UK listings in 2010.

Note, though, that the numbers account for physical sales only – digital sales have not yet been released.
