Steam users can now self-refund pre-orders

Origin-style money-back offers may be some way off, but Steam has introduced one consumer-pleasing feature over the weekend.

Joystiq reports that Steam users are now able to automatically have pre-orders refunded via the introduction of a ‘Refund an Item’ button on their transaction history page.

The pre-order amount is then deposited into a user’s Steam Wallet, regardless of the original purchase method.

Previously those wanting a refund on an unreleased game would have to go through Valve’s often laborious support system.

Of course, note that Steam has a resolute track record of not refunding any orders that have been redeemed, so make sure to use that pre-order button cautiously.
