Stringer: PS3 has made a breakthrough

PS3 platform holder Sony is celebrating a significant increase in its console’s hardware sales in North America following the recent price reductions – and CEO Howard Stringer admits that his company is relieved.

Following the mid-October price drop on the 80GB model and the introduction of the new reduced-price 40GB machine, Sony claims sales have climbed from 30,000-40,000 a week to over 100,000.

Speaking to The Associated Press Stringer stated: "It’s the breakthrough we’ve been anticipating. We’ve been holding our breath. Obviously, we’ve taken so much heat over the year on PS3. Finally, the turning point has been passed.

Stringer also added that the current shortage of Wii hardware is fortuitous” for his company.
