Take-Two reduces losses; Max Payne ships 4m; BioShock ships 3.7m

Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two has reported a drop in losses for the year ending March 2013.

Total net losses for the period reached $31.2m, significantly down on last year’s $107.7m loss. Revenues climbed from $825.8m in 2012 to $1.21bn.

For the fourth quarter revenues doubled from $148.1m to $300m. Last year’s $66m loss became a $21.2m profit this time out. Digital sales grew 192 per cent in the period and accounted for 27 per cent of total revenue.

May Payne 3 was one of the year’s big successes with shipments reaching 4m units. Take-Two named the title as one of the biggest contributors to the year’s net revenue. Shipments had reached 3m units in its first week of release.

BioShock Infinite has also done well with 3.7m units shipped since its March release. It enjoyed the highest first month sales of any game in the series and sales of its Season pass DLC were described as solid”.

Take-Two certainly expects big things in the upcoming fiscal year, owing mainly to the release of Grand Theft Auto V this September.
