Take-Two shapes up for acquisition

Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two is preparing to raise in the region of $200m ahead of what some believe is an imminent acquisition.

The net proceeds from the sale of the notes will be used for general corporate purposes, which may include acquisitions and other strategic investments," the company stated.

The obvious conclusion to draw is that Take-Two is readying some sort of move into the casual and mobile games space.

The company has already enjoyed success on the platform, with Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars excelling on iOS following its commercial failure on DS and PSP.

And as part of the GTAIII 25th Anniversary celebrations Rockstar is to release the game on newer iPhone, iPad and Android models.

But in such a rapidly expanding sector it would be natural for Take-Two to explore ways in which it can access a far wider market, possibly leveraging its 2K Sports brand.
