Tecmo Koei targets European expansion

The merger of Japanese games publishers Tecmo and Koei has resulted in a new label to take shape in Europe: Tecmo Koei Europe.

At a special press event in London this morning attended by Koei boss Kenji Matsubara the new publisher was officially named.

In an official announcement, the new label described itself as a "new force in games publishing" that will provide "new and vigorous growth in Europe" for its parent, which merged earlier this year.

"TKE will offer a new library of games to European audiences while continuing to thrill fans of existing franchises and titles," the company said.

Tecmo Koei Europe’s first game will be PS3 title Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Featuring new characters, game play, and developed by the award-winning Team Ninja, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is the perfect vehicle with which to launch the new company," said Will Curley, VP of sales and marketing for Tecmo Koei Europe.

This is a momentous occasion for both Koei and Tecmo. With some great quality titles coming from both sides, such as Undead Knights and Quantum Theory from Tecmo, and Warriors: Legends of Troy and Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll from Koei, TKE will quickly become one of the major players in the video games industry”.
